'Round Midnight

In the fall of 2022, I spent a month in Paris during which time I participated in a workshop taught by the renowned French photographer Claudine Doury. The result of that stay was a series of night photographs of people doing what people do at night; eating and drinking, begging, greeting, parting, waiting, looking. I called this portfolio 'Round Midnight because the rhythms, mystery and drama of late night Paris reminded me of the jazz classic of the same name by Miles Davis. The rich color in this series is in large part attributable to the street illumination in Paris, a soft golden hue that renders everything saturated and a bit mysterious.
